Thursday, January 01, 2009

Happy New Year to everyone who came to see us in 2008 we will see you all in 2009. In the meantime here is a brief review and summary of 2008 and what Rattle and Hum got up too in the last year. A big. Thanks to all who continue to support us and pack out the venues we play, it ?s down to you that we are able to continue to do this if you didn?t come to see us play we wouldn?t get booked. So we really appreciate it and hope you enjoy it as much as we continue to do so.

Firstly a special thanks to all our families again, we know you put up with a lot!!!!

In 2008 we played 26 gigs

See all the best pictures from our year in the photo section.

January

Adam was away in China so as usual we had the month off. This enabled us to recover from the Christmas festivities and also to learn new material. We played just one gig at Rumours in Heywood after Bono and Adam appeared on Heywood FM radio show to promote the station and the gig at the end of 2007

February

Probably for Adam and The Edge we played the gig of the year in the Middle of the Printworks in Manchester city center, the band were part of the promotion for U23D a 3D movie released by U2 from the vertigo tour we all remember is was bloody freezing but what a great gig.

The euphoria was short lived as our mate Nick sadly passed away on February 29th

March

We had a gig booked at The Rose and Thistle the day after Nicks Death, after long deliberation and discussions with his partner Caroline the band decided it was the right thing to do, so we played the gig it was a very emotional experience and one we don?t ever want to ever repeat again.

Later in the Month we performed at Ma Murphy?s for St Patrick?s Day as usual it was total madness in Ma Murphy?s

April

It was round about this time that our Bono was starting to feel pain and was struggling a lot before after and during gigs but he played on without telling anyone. He did this a lot during 2008 but we played two great gigs in Burnley and St Anne?s. More about Bono?s problem later??..

May

The band held a special memorial night to Nick at the Talbot in Burnley. It was a celebration of Nick?s life. They raised Eight Hundred pounds for the claries House Hospice and appeared for the second set as ?The Nick Daniels band? wearing T-Shirts specially made for the event. It was an emotional but very worthwhile evening and a fitting way to say goodbye to Nick.

In terms of doing great gigs May was probably our best month we made had a great first appearance at The Caf? Artizan in Rawtenstall (we are looking forward to more shows their in 2009). And Bono?s favourite gig was played in the wind and the sunshine outside on the rooftop of The Inside Out bar in Burnley that show-rocked???.and it was packed but so breezy??

We also played a private function at a golf club in Blackburn where the Edge has fond memories of Adam spilling beer down himself as he was playing.

June

We played two gigs in June the highlight was playing on the big stage at Reddish working Men?s club, another private function but boy did we go down well.

July

In July The Wellington opened it is doors again and we performed at the opening day in the audience was Bono from U2 tribute band Us4 who told Adam after the gig he was suitably impressed. He must have been we haven?t seen him or them since???.

The band made their debut at Connors Irish bar in Heaton Chapel. I am sure we will return in 2009.

August

Fast Eddie made his annual pilgrimage to Sweden to visit his relatives so we played two gigs at the end of the month both in the Padiham district of Burnley.

September

The Highlight in September was a great night at The Turf Hotel in Burnley it was so packed and hot in there from the stage you could see the steam coming off the crowd.

October

It had now been a year since we had met Jules for just one rehearsal and he has become the ?savior? of this band not only is because of him we can continue to do it he is not only a great guitarist as the our EDGE but he has become a great mate too?

We played just one gig in St Annes due to Adams day job meaning he had to be over seas a lot at this time.

November

The boys started to learn quite a lot of new material in November some is still being worked on and other made it in to the set list Batman, Bullet etc.

A long awaited and triumphant return was made to The Rose and Thistle after numerous attempts to get it on failed but we finally made it back.

December

The health problem that had troubled Bono for most of the year was finally fixed in December as he underwent surgery earlier in the month He made a faster than expected recovery probably due to the fact he got on so well with his old mate Johnny walker who helped him make a speedy recovery. He hooked up again with Johnny the day after his operation?????

Jules had stag do?s and weddings to attend earlier in the month but in one rehearsal the boys managed to pull off a great version of ?I believe in Father Christmas? originally done by Greg Lake but released the week before Christmas by U2 for AIDS in Africa and to our Bono?s relief don?t think he fancied doing Baby please Come Home again for a fourth year LOL.

The band played on Boxing Day night at their home venue THE Talbot in Burnley to be honest the bands expectations were probably too high and left slightly disappointed.

It was to be short lived the final gig of 2008 was at Ma Murphy?s in Morecambe it was a blinder the place was packed the band had to play more songs at the sound check to keep the punters happy and had to go on early it was so full and it was a great night and a great way to close out our fourth full year.

So a great end to a sad year for the band the music and the people who come to see us are what makes it so special we hope at our gigs. We urge you to continue to support ALL the pubs not just the ones we play in but others too. There are at least FIVE pubs a week closing in the UK we need to keep them open by going in and supporting them.

Hope to see you all in 2009. It promises to be another great year with 20 gigs already in the diary. Bono and Adam are working on a lot more. Please keep checking the site for dates they will be added as soon as they are confirmed. Thanks for all your support

The band would like to thank Craig for doing the sound earlier in the year and Mick for helping lump the gear, it is not always said but it is really appreciated Thanks lads. We look forward to Craig?s return at our opening gig on January 8th.

Thanks too Jules for stepping in to help we couldn't have continued with this without you mate. Without you we couldn't keep "living the dream"............You are now a FULL quarter member of this band.

We hoped and prayed Nick would make it but sadly he didn?t but I bet he has a great band going up in the sky somewhere. He will be telling Jimi Hendrix how to do it. We miss you pal and will forever.

Finally thanks to all the landlords and pub owners for booking us in 2008 we really appreciate you all very much, Thanks a lot

See you all at a Rattle and Hum gig somewhere in 2008. Thanks for all you support in 2008.

Bono, Adam, The Edge and Fast Eddie
